What To Do When Your Clones Arrive at Your Doorstep

“What To Do When Your Clones Arrive at Your Doorstep"

(The official CloneToHome clone-arrival guide)

When your clones arrive in the mail, it’s an exciting day — but the first 10 minutes after unboxing them makes a huge difference in how they root, grow, and bounce back from shipping.

Here’s a simple, beginner-friendly guide to help you get the best start possible.

🌱 Step 1: Bring Your Clones Indoors Immediately

Clones are living plants — even though they ship safely, they should never sit on the porch.

Get the box inside ASAP and move directly to unboxing.

🌱 Step 2: Unbox Carefully (Don’t Yank Anything)

Open the top, remove any packing paper, and gently lift the clone dome or clone tray straight upward.

Never pull a clone by the stem — always lift using the tray or the dome.

Inspect each clone:

  • Leaves should look soft, hydrated, and a little flexible

  • Some droop is normal after shipping

  • Color should be healthy green (some yellowing is okay too)

If anything looks overly dry or floppy, don’t stress — clones bounce back quickly once they’re rehydrated.

🌱 Step 3: Let Your Clones Breathe

Clones have been inside a controlled dome for 24–48 hours during transit. Their first adjustment is simply fresh air.

Keep them in the open air of your grow room or tent for 10–20 minutes.
This helps them acclimate slowly to ambient humidity.

🌱 Step 4: Give Them a Gentle Drink

If you see dryness on the cubes or rapid-wilt leaves:

  • Mist the leaves lightly one time

  • Add a very small amount of water around the cube (not soaking)

The goal is rehydration, not drowning the roots.

Tip: If you use a rooting solution, a light dip around the cube works great here.

🌱 Step 5: Transplant Into Their Final Pots

Your clones are root-ready when they arrive. Transplanting them the same day gives them the best start.

Best beginner method:

  • Use 1-gallon or 3-gallon fabric pots

  • Pre-moisten your soil (slightly damp, not muddy)

  • Make a small hole

  • Place the clone cube inside

  • Firm the soil around it gently

Don’t bury the stem too deep — keep the cube level with the soil surface.

🌱 Step 6: Turn Your Lights Down, Not Up

One of the biggest beginner mistakes is blasting brand-new clones with strong light.

For the first 24–48 hours, run your light at:

  • 40–50% power for LEDs

  • OR raise the light to the top of the tent

This helps them settle in without stress.

After day 2, you can slowly increase intensity.

🌱 Step 7: Keep Airflow Light + Gentle

You want fresh air, not a windstorm.

Aim your fan at the wall, not directly at the clones.
This prevents windburn and gives them an easy start.

🌱 Step 8: Expect a “Bounce Back” Period

Clones shipped by mail experience:

  • Movement

  • Temperature changes

  • Slight dehydration

  • Humidity shifts

A little droop or softness is normal the first 24–48 hours.

Once transplanted and stable, they perk up fast.

🌱 Step 9: Here’s When to Feed

For the first 3–5 days:

  • Keep watering light and controlled

  • No heavy nutrients

  • A mild root stimulator or light veg nutrient (EC 0.6–0.8) is perfect

After the first week, you can transition into your normal veg schedule.

🌱 Bonus: How to Handle Shipping Stress

If your clones look a little sad when they arrive, try:

  • A light foliar mist

  • Lower light intensity

  • Gentle soil moisture

  • Slightly higher humidity (60–70%)

Give them 24 hours — you’ll be shocked how fast they recover.
